"The post date specified not correctly defined" ... can not add necessary fiscal year
Hi all, Version 3.4RC2 (just upgraded problem existed prior) on Debian Squeeze ( fully current). Issue local or on client computer
I have not used the accounting program for a while and was having some problems with this issue prior. I have gotten myself into a problem. I can not post any transactions. The current period is set and displaying properly, the current period pops up in the form selector e.g. sales quotes and on the form the date is correct.
But when I go to post I get a ERROR_MSG_POST_DATE_NOT_IN_FISCAL_YEAR','The post date specified is not within any of the currently defined fiscal years. Either change the post date or add the necessary fiscal year.' This message also appears when first loggin in.
I have fooled around with the computer and settings in General Ledger and did find some errors as follows. 1) The computers date was off by four years ( I am in period 17 which is May 2012) but was showing may 2008 I corrected that and made sure is still corrected it. That did make some difference prior I was unable to have the proper date pop up in the forms - but no difference when posting.
2) I noticed in the Fiscal Period start date that the year was 1971, but only in period 13. The rest were in the proper year 2012. I got into the accounting periods table and corrected that it - made no difference.
When trying to add another fiscal year it added as 1970.
I got back into the table deleted all the data and tried to rebuild the table. Now when trying to access the gL utility I get an error (see below) with a sql trace. The rest of the program (at casual glance) works as it was prior STILL CAN NOT POST.
I don't mind losing financial data. I tried reposting etc. all to no avail.
Is there some way I could keep the chart of accounts, inventory, and contact data and make this work properly again ?
I tried exporting (exported successfully in XML) the contact info and inventory, but it will not import back into a new company I created ( I set file permissions to 777 to make sure no problem with that). Even if I can get it ( and perhaps this is the problem for this and key ) I can not import a fairly complex custom chart of accounts I made ( is there a way to export the charts ( or snag them from the database) and import (seems to be there) back into a new company with the inventory and customer data ?
This problem may have originated on the last upgrade I did several months ago ( from 3.2 I think to 3.3)
Thanks for your consideration and help and making this powerful / open program. Ross

I think the easiest way is to do a new clean install. and then copy the data over from your old data base.
but leave out the table's that contain the periods. and the gl_account history. Then check the journal_main and journal_item tables if the data's are correct.
Then goto general ledger> administrative tools and repost all journals.
Good luck.
