Hello all!
Inaugural post here; sorry that it's for a support question.
I'm trying to install Phreedom on my HostGator business level hosting service. Specs are as follows:
Apache version 2.2.22 PHP version 5.2.17 MySQL version 5.5.23-55 Architecture x86_64 Operating system linux
I'm attempting to go through the installation procedure, and I keep getting an "Access Denied" when I attempt to add the database username and password.
I tried making a new user and a new database twice. I tried changing the password to be only eight ASCII-friendly characters. I tried using the server name, the DNS name, 'localhost', and the IP. It absolutely refuses to authenticate.
I was on web chat with HostGator for nearly an hour trying to get this to work. They couldn't find an issue with this setup, and I'm inclined to believe them since Wordpress installed in ten minutes when I set it up on the same server.
Any assistance that can be provided would be greatly appreciated. Any necessary screengrabs or information requested (short of direct IP addresses and passwords) will be provided upon request.
Thank you all for your time and assistance.
Joey

It sounds like you are having trouble creating the database from your control panel with your host, correct? The Access Denied usually has to do with the MySQL authentication. If you can create a database table, try to access it through phpmyadmin or similar to see if you can at least get there.
If you are having trouble with the Phreedom installation script, take a look at your php error log and see if there are some clues.
Phreedom doesn't create the database, just the tables so an Access Denied error must be at the mysql side.
