I don't think it would be hard and I think it would be useful - A text field (1K?) that lets you put explanations and fuller descriptions so others know what if it is appropriate to use for some function.

This can be done but I was thinking of doing something similar to inventory where each user can add categories and fields to their customer, vendor, and employee accounts to customize it for their particular application. What do you think?

Not sure that much is needed - QB almost had it right - they had the following fields for an account:
account name, number, sub account of, description, note.
The problem was the note field was only 16 char long!
If it was a bank account a bank account number appears - it might be a good idea to have a defined field for bank account numbers so they could be used in future automated transfers..
I would think a hover trick, so if you hoover over the account name or short description of the account, a box would open with the note field.
Others might want the customized fields as well..

This is good as it will give more area to explain the product more easily

This thread is about the customer and vendor accounts. It looks like your comment is about inventory. Inventory already has the ability to add fields.

R1.3.1 has added a tabbed format to the customer/vendor/employee accounts. I have added a Notes tab with a large character capacity.
