Everything goes well until I get to the database setup and as soon as I click save the browser goes to a "Connection reset by server" error page. I have checked all the settings and they are correct so I am not sure why it would be resetting the connection. If I use the default "root" user it says access denied to the database, but as soon as I change it to the same user info that I used for the zencart install it resets the connection. I am using Wamp for my local server.

Are you getting any errors in the apache error log or the php error log? Also, are your trying to install SSL? Does your database have the proper GRANT permissions for the user name you are using?

The only time I get an error is when using the user "root" with no password then it says access denied. If I switch it to the same user for the ZC install I get the connection reset page in my browser. Not using SSL, it is the same exact set-up I used for my online server install, and I have had it installed locally like this before but for some reason this time I can't get the database to connect right.
I dont see anything in apache or php error logs.

Check your session settings. I store info in there during the install in a session variable and this may be the problem. Also, make sure you are not running in Safe mode.
