Hi There,

This is my first post and I'll start by congratulating you on what's shaping up to be a great piece of software.

I was wondering if there was anyone from the UK who was using Phreebooks and if they could point me at some starter information. Primarily I'm looking for:
* A UK Style Chart of Accounts
* Tips on VAT. How does Phreebooks account for and deal with VAT. Is it simply configured as a Sales Tax? Is HMRC then configured as a Tax Authority?
* Any other Gotchas or Tips for a UK based online Retailer.

I'm using Zen-Cart for my store so I'm feeling right at home already :)

Information appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I believe there are a few members to this forum that are operating in the UK. We do, however, have several that are in the EU and can provide tips on VAT. Treat it like a sales tax (both purhcase and sales tax) with the sales tax listed as the total tax collected, and the agency (or agencies) as the authority to build up the sales tax (VAT). You should be able to get a start up set of chart of accounts from your accountant, if you have one. You may also be able to start with the demo retail chart of accounts and modify it to fit your requirements. That's about all the help I can provide at this time, good luck.
Dave

A British Chart of Accounts attached. It is from another accounting software. Adapted for PhreeBooks. Ask for expert advise for fine tuning this COA before using it in production. - It may be good for testing, though.
File goes into: /modules/install/charts before install.

VAT, a way to implement:
Create a vendor: HMRC (=Vendor to submit funds to:)

Sales Tax Authorities:
Short Name: VAT 17.5% (or some other text)
GL Account to record tax: 2200: VAT (17.5%)
Vendor to submit funds to: HMRC

Sales Tax Rates:
Short Name: 17.5%
Select a tax authority to add: VAT 17.5%
(Click Save)

Repeat "Sales Tax Authorities" and "Sales Tax Rates" for other VAT.
**********
File updated to v3. (v2 did not work. Incorrect format. Sorry about that)

Feb. 2011 New file uploaded v3-2. Hope the .zip is ok now. And thanks for pointing out the error in file.

The file attached above seems to be corrupt. I've downloaded several times this morning and each time it is coming back as corrupted.

Anybody else having this problem and does anyone have a copy of this?

Thanks

I too had the same problem. When I unzip the file, it has zero length.

Thanks Julius for sharing. It should prove to be a very useful starting point.

Hi guys,
I've installed version 3.4 and am trying to set up a chart of accounts for the UK using Company -> Module Admin -> Phreebooks Module -> Chart of Accounts tab.
I've tried importing this file but it tells me it is not a text format.

Is there a chart of accounts compatible with version 3.4?

It's ok guys, I've sorted this.
I used the code in the php file to create a SQL insert statement.

Chart of accounts looks ok now :)

Hello people,

I am looking for someone to help me (possibly for a small fee) to setup Phreebooks to operate a UK-based LTD company, UK-style charts of accounts, VAT and all the related functions (except Payrol).

If you suggest someone, or if you can do it please get in touch with me.
Thank you,
Chris

PS I only need help to bring the system to UK standards. Not to install it.

Did you have any luck with the creation of a UK comapny version - with VAT rounding working OK?

Andrew
