I have 2 requests
1. The possibility of changing the SKU number would be a nice feature, i have to deal with regular changing sku numbers, fi. sku: 1234a changed to: 1234b , it's the same inventory but it's a modified version.(or a reference to the old sku nr.?)
2. Changing a inventory item from Stockitem to Nonstockitem and setting the actual stock(if there is any) to zero.

Jan

Jan,

I do not quite understand your post. Why would you have an item that changes sku? I once made a mistake with a sku and wanted to change it, I had to back up my database and use a text editor to change the sku in all the places in the file where it appeared then restore, but that's tricky business, you would not want to do that very often.

The same with stock or non stock items? You ether have stock items or non stock items. But then again I only have one non stock item, I use that one item to sell all kinds of items that we don't stock, I just change the price and description on the invoice.

If you have not posted any transactions to the item you can delete the item and re enter it.

Alvin,

1. Speaks for itselfs why i would like that, i already explained it.
Also if you made a typo and there transactions on the sku it would be usefull.

2. The inventory autoadd function sets the inventory as stockitem per default. Also with other situations in my business it would be usefull if it could be changed afterwards. Older stock after a few year f.i.

I can see a vendor changing their sku, but why change yours?

typos are a small problem but there are ways to deal with them

This should be changed when you enter a new item.

After a few years when you decide to stock the item just enter a new sku as a stock item.

There maybe some other ways to deal with your wish to change sku... I think you may be unique in the way you use your sku. Maybe we can get others to comment on this feature request.

Alvin,
I did not expect a answer from you regarding these requests.
Sorry, if you not like my requests, you can also maybe ignore them?

Jan

I am sorry Jan

We just want Phreedom to be as useful to as many types of business as possible.

I was just trying to understand how you use your sku and if it were something the dev team should consider.

It is me that is looking for answers. But I try to help along the way.

again, my apology.

Jan,
1. There is a Rename option in the Inventory -> Maintain, is this something like what you are looking for?

2. The big problem here is I track stock and don't track non-stock. If I allow changing types and a past entry is re-posted, it would really mess up the history tables. You can go in through the db and change the type but I would make sure the history table show zero in stock. I solve this by renaming the stock item when the level is zero (adjust if necessary) and setting it to inactive. I then create a non-stock item with the original SKU. This keeps the books straight and converts the SKU to a non-stock type.
