I use an item, inventory type (Description) on invoices for notes and others enters, and an item inventory type (Non stock item) for some special order items, no qty needed.
Hope this helps
Alvin

There was also some bugs regarding this. You should just disregard them for now. I believe I have fixed them all in R3.1. There is a patch to turn this off for all inventory types but for now, with 3.1 just around the corner, it's a minor annoyance.

I have the most recent version 3.3 and the problem with inventory items for the services is not completely fixed. When I create an invoice with service items, everything works corrrectly. But when I open existing invoice with service item and try to save or print, the error message with 0 stock level appears regardless the item type (Non-stock, Description).
Is it bug or do I miss something?

Replace file: /modules/phreebooks/ajax/load_order.php with attached. I also made an adjustment to add back the stock items when editing to avoid false out of stock warnings.

Very good Dave, it works like I expect. Don't forget to add this fix to the next release. Can you make so me commments or give some reference to various stock item types and how they are being processed by Phreedom? Below I'm giving what I think, please add what I don't know and correct my errors. - Stock Item - common item, both purchases and sales are recorded, only count on stock is recorded
- Serialized Item - item with unique S/N, purchases and sales are recorded
- Master Stock Item - please explain
- Item Assembly - "a basket" for items please explain details
- Serialized Assembly - please explain
- Non-stock Item - item used only for sales, no stock status is recorded
- Labor - item for assemblies, maybe please explain details
- Service - what is the difference to Non-stock item?
- Flat Rate Service - what is the difference to Non-stock item and Service?
- Charge Item -please explain
- Activity Item -please explain
- Description - dummy item, not stock moves for this items aren't accounted please confirm
Thank you for your effort. Maybe I'm too stupid to find it out. Rosta

This information is in the Help file. Look at the inventory Home page under the User Manual folder.

I'm really sorry, but there is no exact description of the all stock item types. I checked the version shipped with 3.3 RC1 package. I would be very greateful, if you would fill the missing description above.

From the Help file: Quote: Stock - Represents items that are stocked by your company. This includes items that are purchased and re-sold by your company without any value-added provided by your company. Retail type companies typically use stock type items. Stock item movement and cost is tracked in the general ledger.
Master-Stock - Master-stock items are items that contain attributes associated with the item. For example, a shirt item would have the attributes size and color associated with each item. Phreebooks will assign a unique item id to each variation to track inventory activity of each size/color item but retain the link to the master stock item for reporting activity. Master-stock item movement and cost is tracked in the general ledger.
Serialized - Serialized items are items that are assembled and sold by an unique serial number. Serialized item movement and cost are tracked in the general ledger.
Assemblies - Item assemblies consist of one or more inventory items grouped together and sold as an individual item. This inventory type can also be used to group items sold as packages. Assembly item movement and cost is tracked in the general ledger.
Non-stock - Non-stock items are physical items whose costs are not tracked in the general ledger. They may include supplies, packaging material, assembly materials, etc.
Labor - Labor items are associated with employee chargeable time. Labor may be applied to either internal work order activities as well as labor charges to customer for services performed. Labor is typically charged by a time unit (hourly, daily, etc).
Service - Service items are items that typically represent a fixed charged for a service. For example, a packaging charge or handling would be a service. Service costs are tracked in the general ledger.
Charge - A charge item would be a fixed price charge for materials and/or services. Shop supplies and disposal fees would be examples of charges. Charge item costs are tracked in the general ledger.
Activity -
Description - This is a text only item used to communicate information. No cost or activity is tracked in the general ledger. The description item would be typically used for standard statements included with purchase orders, sales orders, etc. The Activity could be treated like a Service or Charge. It is a non-stock item.
