I know this has been discussed elsewhere but I wanted to make a thread here in the Wishlist forum.

It is essential for us to be able to assign multiple vendors to a single product. Some of them are available from up to 4 vendors and we buy based on their stock availability. Perhaps a javascript function similar to the inventory adjustment that allows you to add more vendors as needed?

And then it would be really useful to have the inventory cost set for different vendors and prices when receiving a shipment, and the cost reflected based on inventory from whatever vendor the product is purchased from. For instance, if we buy 10 widgets from vendor A at $10 and then 20 from vendor B at $12.50, for the first 10 sales of the widget the cost is $10 in P/L reports and any other relevant reports, and then once widget 11 through 30 are sold the reports would reflect the $12.50 cost to give a truly accurate picture of P/L.

Ya, dev resources are a little thin. All of us who want this can go to the discussion group and hash out a plan to implement this feature. Once we have the specs I am willing to put up some dev money.

Who else out there needs this?

This is how we handle identical products from multiple vendors. It is a simple workaround and might work for you.

1. Create a custom inventory field: identical_products
2. Make this field an extra search field for inventory search queries.
3. Add all identical product skus to this field (separated by spaces)
4. As a way to readily distinguish skus as having identical products, add the character "=" (o any other) at the end of the product descriptions.

Before reordering an item with an equal sign at the end of the description, check stock of the identical products. By doing a search for one sku all identical products will come up.

I'm willing to kick in however much $$ it takes, I support the project monthly and have no problem paying for extra features like this. This is the type of reason that I am going with an open source project instead of using something like quickbooks or peachtree: if paying a developer to create this type of added, and perhaps more specialized/customized feature, for these other solutions we'd pay mega-$$. And I'd rather support this community-oriented project. :D

Alvin, is there a thread about this already in the Google group?

Ruben, thanks for the work-around. I will try it out as a temp fix until we can get something else implemented.

I have some things I need to do over the next few days. When I get back with more time I will put together what it takes to get this done.

I did make one post over at http://groups.google.com/group/phreedom-erp/ but we will need to move this discussion to http://groups.google.com/group/phreedom-development

All those with dev and sys design expertise are encouraged to join.

I will be back in a few days to put all this together...

PS: Rulola, your a genius... :D
